It occurred to me this week that technology advances very quickly as it creeps into our personal lives but we are resistant to accept the technology changes into our business environments.  Just imagine what the future can bring as we evolve with technology …. We can no longer have just operators as we embrace automation but rather every person will require significant technical skills just to be employed.  Read this week’s newsletter.

We spent an exciting week in Quebec working with one of our favorite partners … just a short period ago their board owners were nervous to do daily reporting now they speak like business people during the monthly reflection meeting to the Lead team … AWESOME !!!! plus the President and Owner of he business was just acknowledged as entrepreneurial of the year for the province of Quebec.  So now it becomes important to the organization to shape their Values … so this week we explore the importance of organizational values.

We always work with our client partners to develop processes that will allow for continuous flow … plus I came across an article that makes one ponder about manufacturing 4.0 .. enjoy

Unfortunately it seems that Winter has arrived since we woke up this morning to a light dusting of snow on the ground.

Achieving good quality or an excellent first pass yield is not accomplished with luck but rather by engineering in attributes during the design process so this week we discuss briefly the topic of Error proofing … even if you have an existing process you still have the opportunity to return and error proof the process.  Remember as operators once they achieve their rhythm they are working off of muscle memory so error proofing acts like an alarm clock to the brain.

You have listened to me on several occasions that a good Lean process should start with the design of an excellent material conveyance methodology but this link shows how this even applies to F1 racing ….

We returned last week from an exciting week in Quebec.  Exciting because we facilitated a “Reflection” meeting at one of our clients.  Several years ago when the journey began we advised them that it typically takes 3 months to train employees to translate performance as a dot onto a graph and addition 3 months to have them connect the dots and then another 3 months for them to observe trends … so it was impressive and exciting to have team members talk about performance using numbers and not emotion … although the emotion was still there but it was focused on improvement.

Enjoy this week’s newsletter about velocity.

No excuses … this week’s newsletter is a re-print of a previous newsletter.  The Resident Love Goddess and I are in Quebec where the leaves have turned and are in peak colour and we want to spend our time in observation mode.  Enjoy your wonderful Sunday and hope that you have a great week ahead.

Resources are tight and you have too much work to get completed … what do you do?  Get innovative and work with resources you already know (maybe) your suppliers !!   This week we explore ideas on how to get closer to your supply community without it costing you anything.

As for innovation … this magic act amazed me …

It seems that today every organization is looking for people … good people and not surprising in most cases that we have been exposed to up to 90% resign from the organization within 60 days.  Most of you follow and likely have in place processes to support the 3R’s of HR

  • Recruit
  • Retain
  • Recognize

But often overlooked is how we on board new employees so a recent article I read had to be shared.

We work with a small specialty coffee roaster and they were very excited this week once they had learned that they had won 3 awards …  You can order their coffee on-line

https://barocco-coffee-company.myshopify.com/

We’re very excited to be a triple medalist competing among 900 of North America’s best coffee roasters during this year’s competition in Portland, Oregon…
